Keystone Cobras Select Softball Program for 2011

Over the past several years, Keystone Little League has established a premier softball program with opportunities for players of all ages and skill levels.  We have been successful in retaining our most talented players by offering various levels of competitive play and providing game opportunities beyond the Keystone Little League regular season schedule.  We have accomplished this through our Cobra softball program.  The Cobra program is for players who would like to remain part of the Little League system but are looking for more aggressive play and a fuller game schedule than what Little League alone can offer.

Details of how the Cobra program will operate at the various age levels for the 2011 season are outlined below.

10 and Under (10U is for players born in 2000/2001) AND
12 and Under (12U is for players born in 1998/1999)

We are planning to create one 10U Cobra team and two 12U Cobra teams for the 2011 season.  Our talent base and level of interest has grown to the point where we are able to support this and we are excited to offer this opportunity to a larger group of players.  For our 12U teams, we will create a competitve “varsity” type team and a developmental “JV” type team.

The 10U and 12U Cobra players will be required to participate in Keystone’s regular season play in addition to their Cobra commitment.  Note that this dual commitment is mandatory.  Girls not interested in participating in the Keystone Little League regular season are not eligible to play on a Cobra team.  There are many advantages to participation on both teams, including the opportunity to play different positions and the opportunity for selection to post-season All Star teams (including the chance to play in the Little League World Series at the 12U level).  The biggest advantage though is the opportunity to play at the highest level of the game while still remaining a part of the Keystone community.  Keystone offers the ultimate ball park experience for a young player and the cohesiveness of our teams and players is unmatched by any program in the area.

Players selected to the 10U and 12U teams will practice together this fall and winter.  Cobra games in the Spring/Summer of 2011 will consist of Monday night games in the Metro Omaha Softball league and participation in four or more weekend tournaments throughout the season.

14 and Under (14U - players born in 1996/1997)

Our 14U Cobra team DOES NOT play Little League softball.  This team is a select-level team only and will play in the Spring/Summer of 2011 in the Metro Omaha Softball league against other area select teams and will also play in 7 or more weekend tournaments.  The team will practice in the fall and winter.  (Players selected to a high school team will be excused from fall practices.)
