Jr. Umpire Information

Welcome to the Keystone Little League Baseball and Softball Umpire Page.  On this page you will find training, scheduling information and links regarding the rules of the game.  If you have any questions, please contact Paul Smith at jrumpires@keystonelittleleague.com.

Junior Umpire Program

Will you be at least 10 years old in the spring of 2018? Are you a former Little Leaguer, knowledgeable about baseball and/or softball and looking to earn some cash? If so, then the Keystone Little League Junior Umpire Program might be for you! We are looking for current or former players who know baseball/softball and who want to umpire games for 7-12 year olds on weeknights and on weekends during the day. We will train you and provide the equipment you need.

During regular season play, we pay $6.00 to the field umpire, $9.00 to the behind the plate umpire, $15.00 if alone. During the All-Stars tournament, we pay $8.00 to the field umpire, $12.00 for the behind the plate umpire, and $20.00 if alone.  You need to commit to attend the training and have the time to work at least one game a week.

If you want to join the program, go to our home page and click on the registration link. Follow the instructions and register as an umpire. We'll get back in touch with you in early spring to tell you when the training is and how to get started.

Umpire Uniform

Junior umpires will be required to wear the designated uniform.

A T-shirt provided by the league.  Each umpire will be given one T-shirt, additional T-shirts will be available for purchase.

Black pants, black shorts or white baseball/softball pants maybe worn. Shorts should be of acceptable length, no short shorts.

Socks and closed toe shoes must to be worn. No sandals or flip flops.

Each umpire is responsible to have a clicker. As in the past we will have clickers for sale at the training session for $3.00.  Both the field and home plate umpires should be keeping the ball/strike count.

Umpire Training

New Junior Umpires are required to attend training in March, dates to be determined.  Any returning Junior Umpires are not required but are welcome to attend.

Any questions, please contact Paul Smith or Kim Erickson at jrumpires@keystonelittleleague.com

Scheduling Games

Jr. Umpires through their parents will be able to sign up for games to umpire through I-Volunteer.

Jr. Umpires are only eligible to sign up for one game during the week (weeknights) and one game on the weekends.  The Jr. Umpire is responsible to be aware of their own baseball/softball schedule and make sure to not schedule themselves during a scheduled game.  If a game is available, notice will be sent out via email indicating that any Jr. Umpire who is eligible for a game may sign up for the remaining slots.

Jr. Umpires are only eligible to sign up to umpire a league that they no longer eligible to play in.

Examples:

A Minor League Softball playing Jr. Umpire is only eligible to umpire Farm Softball.

A Major League Baseball playing Jr. Umpire can umpire Minors Baseball, Farm 8 and Farm 7.

A Jr. Umpire is only allowed to miss one game unexcused.

Excused absences must be given at least 24 hours in advance, if possible by email to jrumpires@keystonelittleleague.com .  If less than 24 hours advanced notice can be received, the Jr. Umpire must contact Paul Smith at 402-889-8382.  Excused absences include such things as illness, death in families and the like.

Additional Information

Keystone Little League is available at any time during a game, if needed.  For younger umpires, it is strongly encouraged that a parent be at the field at all times.  If the need should arise, please contact either Paul Smith at 402-889-8382.

Thank you for being a part of the Keystone Little League Junior Umpires!
